Electric vehicle sales in the world are expected to rise to 17 million this year. Last year, 14 million electric cars were sold.
According to the Global Electric Vehicle Outlook report published annually by the International Energy Agency (IEA), electric vehicle sales in the first quarter of this year increased by 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
The number of electric vehicles sold during this period was equal to the number of electric vehicles sold in the whole of 2020.
Electric vehicle sales in the world are expected to reach 17 million by the end of this year. Last year, sales were at the level of 14 million units.
Thus, while it is estimated that one in every 5 vehicles sold in the world this year will be electric, it is predicted that the rapid growth in electric vehicle sales will reshape the global automotive industry and significantly reduce the demand for oil used in transportation.
