Sales Were Below Expectations, Mercedes-Benz Reduced Its Targets

Mercedes-Benz decided to lower its target as electric vehicle sales in 2023 were below its plans.

German luxury car manufacturer Mercedes is revising its electric vehicle targets. The company plans to change its target of offering new electric-only models from 2030, so that electric and hybrid vehicles will account for half of its total sales.

While Mercedes-Benz experienced a decrease in profits in the 2023 fiscal year, there was an increase in the profits of the light commercial vehicles division.

The company is experiencing some difficulties in the transition to electric vehicles and continues to generate revenue from models with internal combustion engines.

Mercedes-Benz, whose electric vehicle sales are below the plan in 2023, is reviewing its strategy.

The company plans to change its target of selling only electric new models starting from 2030, so that electric and hybrid vehicles will account for half of total sales.

Mercedes-Benz wanted to obtain more than 20 percent of its sales from fully electric cars in 2023.

However, the Stuttgart-based company could only achieve a 12 percent electric share of the nearly two million cars delivered last year.
